New Names for Sunday School

What should we name the new Sunday School Program?

So far the best ideas we have are to call the 9:20 program
small GROUP
This time will focus on the Bible: reading it, knowing where the different books are, who wrote it, etc. Skipper Don will lead this at first.

Then at 10:15 the kids will go to
Sunday's Cool
This will be like a mini day of VBS every week. See the postings below for more information.

What do you think about these names?
Do you have any other suggestions?

What we're looking for in a Curriculum for Sunday's Cool

Here are some things to consider when looking at the curricula below:

1. Needs to be solid Biblically -- there should be a clear Bible Point in each lesson.
2. Needs to be multiage -- this year we will not separate kids out by age, simply because we don't have enough kids to do this effectively.
3. Needs to be interactive and appealing to a variety of learning styles -- that is, there should be music, games, activities, video, etc. in addition to a solid Biblical reference.
4. Needs to be simple to prepare for the volunteers.
5. Needs to be moderately priced. We don't want to be locked into buying a lot of expensive doodads!
6. Needs to be able to be presented in 30 minutes or less (excluding the praise and worship time.)
7. Needs to be FUN and EDIFYING for both kids and adults!

Please keep these guidelines in mind when reviewing the curricula!

Feel free to add to or comment on these guidelines below!

Sunday School Attendees

Thanks to Ann & Suzanne we have the following stats on our Alleulia! kids:

Nursery, Ages 1 to 3: 10
Preschool, Ages 4 and 5: 8
Elementary, Ages 6 to 11: 13
Middle School and High School: 16

This breakout is very similar to our VBS makeup.

Questions:
1. Do you think we should have a separate Sunday School Class for preschoolers?
2. What do you think about having the Affirmation group teach Sunday's Cool as a requirement?

Sunday School 2004-2005

Sunday's Cool

Here is a proposed format for the coming school year's Sunday School:

9:20 − 10:00 a.m. Adult Sunday School and Children’s Bible Activity
Adult Sunday School would be unchanged
Children’s Bible Activity
Using the current Children’s Church format,
see
http://www.changingchurch.org/
consists of 2 coloring and activity pages
can be run by 1-2 people since we typically get 10 or few kids for this time
usually only the kids whose parents are either setting up, practicing with the band or going to Adult Sunday School

10:15 − 11:25 a.m. Sunday Bible School (SBS) (like a VBS format)
10:15 − 10:25 Song Fest
using a DVD and big screen projector
one volunteer – possibly a teen to lead songs
10:25 − 10:33 Children’s Message – Bible Teaching
similar to what we do in worship now (Childrens’ Message)
the adult who does this can return to worship when finished
10:33 − 11:20 Activity Station(s)
can be a craft, snack, service project, game
similar to one VBS station, volunteers rotate every week.
theme is based on the day’s teaching.
11:20 − 11:25 Wrapup and Prayer
11:25 − Return for Communion with the Congregation

We are thinking of using VBS-like materials for this. (But very simplified!)
