Summer Sunday's COOL

Sunday Morning at the Movies

For the Sundays between May 29 and September 4, Sunday’s COOL will be watching movies and talking about the Biblical themes in them. We hope this will be a relaxing but thought provoking summer activity for our kids. Here is the schedule:

10:33 to 10:50 -- Join the congregation for Worship in Song
10:50 -- Kids are dismissed from Worship
10:50 to 10:55 -- Get a “movie snack” and a carpet square
10:55 to 11:25 -- Movie Time!
11:25 -- Return to the Worship for Communion

Each week there will be a theme and a Bible Key Verse to think about while watching the movie. We will not watch movies rated higher than PG. Parents, please check with Don Pearson, our Youth Pastor, if you are concerned about what movies we will watch. There will always be an option for a G movie if there are any objections.

Coloring Contest
While we are watching the movie we will run a coloring contest. Here are the rules:
1. The contest runs from May 29 to September 4 — 15 weeks.
2. You may only win once during the summer.
3. There will be one winner each week, judged by the parent and teen monitors (see below)
4. The winner is not necessarily the best technique or neatest, but the person who gave their best effort, best attitude and best heart in their work for God according to Colossians 3:23 — "Work at everything you do with all your heart. Work as if you were working for the Lord."
5. Winning artwork will be framed and displayed in the hallway of the Alleluia! Office
6. Pick one picture from the box of Sunday’s COOL coloring sheets from last year.
7. You may use crayons, markers, pencils, etc.
8. Winners will get to pick a prize from the Prize Basket (there are new things in there!)
9. Void where prohibited by law. Not open to residents of MI, NE, IS, BE, ST.

Parents and Teens, we need YOUR HELP to supervise the kids while they watch the movies. We need one adult and one teen monitor each week. Please contact Don Pearson to volunteer.

Little Secrets

The first movie we watched was "Little Secrets," where Emily learns that lying and helping others to lie makes everyone unhappy. We compared Emily's situation to the Bible verse, "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:32

Larry Boy and the Fib from Outer Space

The second movie we watched was a Veggie Tales film that also talked about lying. Junior Asparagus found that one little lie can turn into a city eating monster. He was also set free by telling his father the truth.

Chadder's Serengeti Adventure

After a great VBS from Group, Inc. we had so many requests to see the Chadder video that we made it a part of our Summer movie series. We watched all five days' episodes as Chadder the Chipmunk accomplished his mission in the Serengeti -- learning a lot about God in the process.

My Vacation!

While I was on vacation we had several volunteers who also played some Veggie Tales videos for Sunday's COOL. Thanks to Anne, Gary, Justin and Ryo for your help!

Joseph: King of Dreams

We are currently watching this animated Dreamworks production. It tells the story of Jacob's son Joseph. (Genesis 30 and on to the end of the book.) The Bible verse we associated with this movie was from Genesis 50:20:

You planned to harm me.
But God planned it for good.
God planned to do what is now being done.
God wanted to save many lives.

This shows us how God can turn bad things and the work of evil people into blessings.
